In the UK, "chiropodist" and "podiatrist" are essentially interchangeable terms for the same profession: a healthcare professional specializing in foot and ankle care, with "podiatrist" being the more internationally recognized term.
The change from chiropodist to podiatrist occurred in the early 1990’s in the UK so anyone qualifying after then would be known as a podiatrist and before then as a chiropodist. Both chiropodists and podiatrists must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice in the UK.
